Skilled visas are point based visas for people with nominated occupation, appropriate English Skills, Education and Work Experience.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
The Skilled-Independent visa (subclass 189) is a permanent residence visa for points-tested skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia.
To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply. You can be in or outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is granted.
You might be eligible to apply for this visa if invited. When we sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:
- Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- Not yet turned 45 years of age
- Achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
- At least competent English.
Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
The Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) is a permanent residence visa for points-test skilled workers who want to work and live in Australia after being nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency. To be able to apply for this visa you need to submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect to apply. You can be in or outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is granted.
You might be eligible to apply for this visa if you were invited. When we sent you your letter of invitation, you must also have:
- Nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
- Obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
- Not yet turned 45 years of age
- Achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
- At least competent English.
- Been nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency.
Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa
This is a provisional visa. It is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional
Australia
With this Visa you can
1. stay in Australia for 5 years
2. live, work and study in a designated regional area of Australia
3. travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, while the visa is valid
4. apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted
You must:
- be nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or an eligible
relative must sponsor you - have an occupation on a relevant skilled occupation list
- have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation
- be invited to apply
- satisfy the points test
Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) Regional Provisional stream
With this visa, you can…
1 work and study anywhere in Australia
2 sponsor eligible family members for permanent residence
3 if eligible, become an Australian citizen.
You must
- hold an eligible visa for at least three years
- have had a taxable income at or above a specific income threshold for at least three
- have complied with the conditions of the eligible visa you hold or have held.

Skilled Regional visa (subclass 887)
This is a permanent visa for people who have lived and worked in specified areas of regional Australia.
You might be able to get this visa if you:
- Are in Australia
- Hold a
- Have lived in a specified regional area of Australia for at least two years
- Have worked full time in a specified regional area for at least one year
- Meet health and character requirements.
